Snowman On Display

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Big Bear is the perfect place to get a breath of fresh air as well as a completely different change of season than can’t be experienced at lower elevations.  Although each season has its special attributes, the winter season is the magical season! One fun thing to do is to look for the snowman throughout the valley. Guests and locals alike build them for funh one having its own personality.  Over the past holiday weekend a family from Chatsworth built a huge snowman in Sugarloaf. The family said it was a challenge and would probably not try it again, but, a great time was had by all.

What To Do With Fish You Catch But Don’t Want To Eat

Johnnys Big Catch

Living in Big Bear definately has its advantages. Here’s a little information for all of you adventurous people who love to fish but do not want to eat the fish you catch.

One day my son (5 yrs. old) came home with a 5lb. trout that was 14 inches long… he was so excited and couldn’t wait until I got home from work to share his catch with me. When I came home to find this huge stinky fish starring at me inside of the fridge, gross!!, he begged me to fry the poor fishy up, but, instead, I convinced his precious heart to be a good samaritan and “donate” the fishy to the “Moonridge Zoo” located in Big Bear to feed to the animals (bears)!

We took a drive that same day and off the fishy went. Yeah…my son was so proud to not only brag about his fish that he caught for the first time, but, to learn that there are other animals out there that would appreciate the fish more.  So, if you love fishing and don’t feel like eating the fish, instead of tossing it back into the lake, why not consider donating it to the Moonridge Zoo and walk away proud!

My Big Bear Adventure

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

I started out one morning heading up to Big Bear, the scenic drive was amazing. Icy roads have their challenges and so do visitors who stop in the middle of the traffic lane to put on chains. After dodging the inexperienced putting on their chains I arrived at my friends cabin and there was nowhere to park, the City had plowed the streets and left a berm in the driveway. I left my car and decided to walk  to go skiing, it was great, I only got knocked down 8 times by snowboarders. When I got back to my friends cabin I had discovered that my car had been towed. But, after all is said and done, I am looking forward to the next time I can drive the scenic icy roads, dodging inexperienced people installing chains, so that I can once again enjoy the great sking conditions at the slopes in Big Bear. Next time I will ski at the Snow Summit Ski Resort in Big Bear where there are less snowboarders, sorry snowboarders, no hard feelings!

Winter Activities In Big Bear

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Burr….but, another gorgeous day in Big Bear! Chilly but sunny, not a cloud in the sky, surrounded with snow.

There are still plenty of things to do in Big Bear to get away from the city life, or just spontaneously jump in your car and have a mini vacation.

Big Bear offers an abundance of winter activities from snowboarding to skiing. The Snowshoes Event, which by the way is coming up Jan. 28 is an awesome treat for all those wishing to participate. There’s also sledding for all ages. The snow is fun for the little ones to track down animal footprints, building snowmen, tossing snow balls, etc. Come on up and enjoy the fun!! :)
