What a wonderful day in the neighborhood!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

The weather is so nice up here we walked to lunch!  As always, another great meal at the Log Cabin Restaurant!  Next time you are in our neck of the woods you must have one of their great burgers with homemade potato chips.  It was a toss up between the steak fries or potato chips… I am planning on fishing again as soon as I have a day off, the fishies are calling me!

Spring Into Big Bear

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

So spring is upon us once again in our valley, with the birds chirping and the squirrels gathering nuts and chasing each other. It’s a perfect time to visit and see the splendid sunset off the lake or just relax and catch some fish.

Go on a nature walk or be a people watcher. Browse thru the village and get an ice cream from the northpole fudge company or catch the latest movie at one of our theaters. There’s always something hoppin’ in Big Bear.

Have dinner at one of our wonderful restaurants like Captains Anchorage (they have the best clam chowder) or Maggios for some great Itailan food. So give us a call @ 1 (800) 363-8303 or go to our website @ cabin411.com to make your reservation today……

MARTA

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

This is the name of the transit system that is used for Big Bear, Crestline, Lake Arrowhead and Running Springs.  It is our only source of public transportaion and one that the communities rely on heavily.  In the announced 2009/2010 transit budget, MARTA has been cut by 5% this year.  This will definitely have adverse effects for our communities.  The MARTA Board is pursing additional grants so that the citizens of these cities won’t be paying for these cuts in passenger fess.

It’s warming up….

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

The weather is just beautiful up here.  It is still the slightly chilly Spring weather that is typical of Big Bear, but the sun has been shining, and people are out and about on the lake and around town.  One thing that is important to know about Big Bear if you are heading up this summer is that this it is a great place to escape from the scorching weather down the hill, but because it never gets so hot , most of the homes do not have air conditioning.  We just typically dont need it.  So be prepared for some fresh summer air when you head up here this coming season!

Fresh Fruit in the Sunshine

Monday, April 27th, 2009
I am so excited to be able to go check out our local Farmer’s Market tomorrow as I have not had the chance yet this spring to go there.
As I only just moved to Big Bear this past January this will be the first one I get to go to. I love getting to go and buy fresh fruits and vegetable’s at a reasonable price.
Even better is that by doing so I will be helping to support our local growers who need to provide for their families, and to help stimulate the local economy. Plus it is just too much fun to be able to walk around outside and enjoy the colors and smells that the sun will bring out that you just can’t find in a grocery store.

Goodbye to a friend

Monday, April 27th, 2009
This week is a bittersweet one for the staff here at Gold Rush as we will be losing one of our own.
Our wonderful manager Jessica will be leaving us so that she may move back down to San Diego. We will be very sad to lose her but must wish her well as she starts a new adventure.
Unfortunately there just was not enough work to be had here in Big Bear and so her and her man will being moving down off of the mountain so as to find the work that is needed for them.
We will miss her but must be happy in the knowledge that they are doing what is necessary for them to be happy and healthy. So best wishes and good luck on a bright future for our dear Miss Jessica!!

On Your Way Up the Mountain…..

Monday, April 27th, 2009

If you are coming up the front side of the mountain to Big Bear, from LA, a great place to stop and have lunch would be Lake Arrowhead.

This town has a great shopping district on the lake, and offers some amusement for the kiddies. It is a cute, and very wealthy area of the San Bernardino Mountains, and a fun place to visit, but I don’t think it has quite as much charm or activities as Big Bear, so hit Lake Arrowhead on your way to Big Bear.

Just another awesome place, so close to your vacation destination!

Another Place to Venture While in Big Bear!

Monday, April 27th, 2009

Big Bear Valley is compiled of many different areas, one of my favorites being Fawnskin.

The town of Fawnskin is located on the North Shore of Big Bear, and offers a cute and quaint alternative to the hustle and bustle of the more populated Big Bear Lake.

In Fawnskin, you will will find restaurants, shops, anitque stores, and of course the other side of the lake. I would highly recommend taking a drive into Fawskin during your trip in Big Bear.

For more information about this adorable place, you can go to www.fawnskinchamber.com.
