Big Bear History-There’s gold in them there hills…

Most folks know that Holcomb Valley is the place where gold was mined and taken from the mountains. Did you know that many people still have claims up there and mine today! I know this for a fact, as I am a miner! I belong to two mining groups in the high desert and they both have claims up here!

I must tell you that it is slim pickins, or should I say hard diggin, but you can bet there is flour gold and a few pickers right here in our valley. A friend of mine from the desert area told me of a place he found to find some little nuggets. Ok, I am listening now! Sure shootin, we will be going to that area in a few weeks. I will let you know how it goes.

Mining is hard, dusty, dirty work in the mountains. But I will tell you that when you see that shine in the bottom of your pan, you just keep digging!

The Discovery Center can give you mining information and I will be happy to assist you with reservations so you will be able to rest your weary head.

Rustic Romance…

Oh, how lovely it is to be in Big Bear for Memorial weekend… I love the weather and the spectacular views that Rustic Romance has to offer!!!

What a gorgeous cabin, perfect a romantic getaway or for a small family trip!

There are two bedrooms, one bedroom has two twin beds, or you can convert both twins into one large king bed if you had 2 couples staying ! The master has a king bed !

Walking out to the back deck and there it is…. the beauty that surrounds you!! An expansive view of the lake, complete with hawks swooping down to the lake for a fresh meal, ducks swimming happily along, beautiful large white cranes gracefully exploring the shoreline. Whether you choose to indulge during the day or night either one offers it own glorious pleasantries. At night you can see the zillion and one stars, sometimes a shooting star or two will offer a celestial show.

With the lake literally right out the back, anyone wishing to fish can do so right from the shore, don’t forget to have your license ready just in case for all you fishermen!!

The neighborhood is super quiet!! The decor offers true mountain ambience at its best!!

Summit Plaza Car Show TODAY

On my way into work today, at the Summit Plaza on Big Bear Blvd, there was a terrific looking car show! I went to that one last year and the cars were beautiful! It looked like they had more this year! The parking lot was FULL of oldies but goodies. If you are in the area, stop by the car show.

If you happen to be reading this “down the hill” I still have a few places left to rent to you TODAY! Come up the hill and I will find you a sweet place with a sweet price. Then you can head on over to the car show and maybe take in some fishing and geocaching too!

The Big Bear Cache Bash 5! The biggest weekend for Geocachers in Big Bear will be the weekend of August 14, 15, and 16, 2009!

Friday night is usually a meet and greet food event, followed by a flash event.

Saturday is the BIG BEAR CACHE BASH IV!

Can you believe that we have been doing this for 5 years! Another day of caching, then picnic-ing, and collecting all the prizes at the park! Usually followed by a campfire event and an early morning (Sunday) sunrise flash event…

For more information, go to… www.geocaching.com and sign up! It is a free game played all over the world! We would love for youo to join us!

If you don’t have reservations, you need to make them NOW! That weekend, there will also be a car show so plan on getting a place soon!

Combination Homes For Large Groups

Hello all, it’s me Bre and I thought I’d tell you about some of our homes that are great for large groups.

We have three big beautiful homes in Boulder Bay right next door to each other, which combined sleeps 42 people. With spa’s at two of these homes and a new spa just delivered and installed for the third.

All of the homes have pool tables for your enjoyment. They are beautifully decorated and have long tables for conferences or gatherings. Each has a bbq for grilling something up and are walking distance to the lake for fishing or just taking in the beauty that Big Bear is so famous for.
