Paradise is only a short drive away!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

One of the best things about Big Bear has to be the fact that it’s a drive to destination.

Many people may not realize it, but Big Bear is actually a four season resort. The winter is obviously best known for its skiing and snow boarding and many guests come here in the summer to play on the lake and get away to cooler temperatures of the mountain.

But Spring and Fall are still Big Bear’s best kept secret. Many hikers, fisherman and mountain bikers have found out that the Spring and Fall is prime time for a visit!

Although currently the rates at the Gold Rush Resort Rentals are by far cheaper than usual, after the labor day holiday, you are treated to much greater reduced rates.  The temperatures are still excellent and the lake is open and less crowded. So check out Big Bear in the fall or spring if you want to experience the full beauty without the crowds.

Big Bear Lake Has it over Mammoth, Tahoe, and other resorts!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This unbiased review of Big Bear was found on Trip Advisor, we thought it was something that warranted sharing.

I had owned a vacation home in Mammoth for almost 20 years but had grown increasingly tired of running the Highway 395 gauntlet for weekend escapes.

I began to search for an alternative. We auditioned vacation homes from Tahoe and Lake Almanor to Clear Lake and Lake Nacimiento to Laughlin/Bullhead City and Lake Havasu.

We began to feel like Goldilocks, one was too cold, one was too hot, one had no winter activities, one had no summer, all were too far.

Almost on a lark I re-visited Big Bear Lake. While BBL does not rate #1 with us in any particular activity, except proximity, it was the only vacation destination that ranked high in EVERY category.

Think about it – the ONLY four season mountain resort within three hours driving distance of over 21 million residents! And now that BBL controls its own water resources, the days of the lake being reduced to a puddle because of the orange groves down below are long gone.

The local leadership has done a breathtaking job trying to retard upscale development to protect locals but gradually the area is being rediscovered as a true treasure! If you have not visited for a while, come on up and take a second look.

You’ll be VERY impressed.

The Big Bear Queen Tour, the best history lesson on Big Bear Lake

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

big-bear-queen

The skipper of the Big Bear Queen, Chris,  has lived in Big Bear his entire life. His Grandfather moved to Big Bear in 1924.

When you take a tour on the Big Bear Queen you get the history of Big Bear all the way prior to the developement of the man made lake through to the present day.

The history of the cattle ranching days before the first dam was built then proceeds to tell the story of the people and purposes they had in making Big Bear Valley into what it is today.

The history includes the early pioneer gold mining operations, the first dam placement to make the lake for irrigation in Redlands, the speak-easy days, early cabins and vacation spots of the lake’s builders, etc.

Many celebrities have lived and vacationed around the lake, part of the tour points many of their properties out. New lakefront construction goes on to this day, the information is so detailed that they even tell you how much they cost as well as the square footage of each. In short, this is the best history lesson you will ever receive for a mere $15 price tag.

The 2pm tour is guaranteed to run each day during the summer. This is the only tour in Big Bear to do this. Other tours at 12pm and 4pm may be available.

The Big Bear Queen is a smaller boat and can get much closer to the shoreline, not to mention the tour is also $5 cheaper.

We recommend wearing long pants and a wind breaker, even on sunny days, the wind from the lake can make for a chilly experience at times. Layer your clothes for optimum comfort.

Fun In The Sun-Big Bear Has It All!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

I thought I’d tell you about life in Big Bear. I have lived here for 21 years and I love it.

There’s no road rage, smog or freeways. Just the majestic mountains and clean air.  I get waken up by birds not traffic or factories. You can see the sun shining and feel it on your face warming you.

I have never seen the temperature over 90 and that was a rare day. Big Bear gets all four seasons which I love. We don’t have drive by shootings or road rage. Everyone knows each other at the grocery store and gas stations. Our motto is pay it forward up here.

So, when you come up and visit our community please don’t leave your trash by the side of the lake, it endangers our local critters. And if you see someone stuck stop and lend a hand because they would do it for you. The people are nicer up here and care what happens in our community. We strive to keep Big Bear clean and beautiful for ourselves as well as our visitors.

PLEASE don’t bring any fireworks up here, not only is it illegal but being evacuated from your home is no fun because someone carelessly started a fire and didn’t take the time to put it out properly.

Thank you, see you soon for the fourth of July spectacular fireworks show. Every year it just keeps getting better, bigger and brighter fireworks plus there’s lots to do around town throughout the weekend.

So come on up and enjoy but respect the community at the same time….Bre : )

Big Bear California, Come On Up For A Breath of Fresh Air

Monday, June 29th, 2009

So it’s another beautiful day in Big Bear California with the sun shining and there’s a light breeze blowing with the temperature at 70 degrees, perfect weather!!

We had the pleasure of having the Corvettes West Big Bear Bash here in Big Bear this past weekend. It was so cool seeing all the different styles and makes and different years of these Corvettes cruising around town or parked at various places.

It’s also the perfect time for fishing in our valley right now; I even caught my first fish of the year yesterday, a beautiful rainbow trout which I gave to my co-worker and friend Susan to enjoy (yummy).

Usually I catch and release but if I can’t then I give it to some one or take it to our local Zoo for the bears. They love fish and are happy to take it off my hands lol…..I love everything Big Bear has to offer from off roadin’ to fishing to camping to walks on one of our lakeside trails to boating and so much more.

We still have some homes available for the Fourth of July holiday and the firework show is one not to be missed it just gets more extravagant every year.

So give me call at 1 (800) 363-8303 to plan your get-away and to see pictures of our homes visit our website at www.bigbearrentals.net Looking forward to your call…Bre : )
