May Trout Fishing Classic

The 27th annual Jim Hall Memorial May Trout Classic is one of the most popular events in Big Bear and it is just around the corner!  By April 21, 2009 the registration of 425 was full.  So, you may ask, why are you telling us about it?  Well, fish don’t know if you are registered or not!  You can still fish for the trophy size trout…the smallest is in the 3 pound range.  If I caught a “small” 3 pound fish I would be in trout heaven!

Now a little history about Jim Hall…Jim and his buddy, Jerry, started the May Trout Classic as a way to get folks to Big Bear between the snow and summer season.  They were trying to assist the Chamber of Commerce drum up business during the “slow” months.  Jerry moved to Arizona, so and as a loyal wife, Jacque continued to do the back ground work to keep the event running.  She says she quit many times…but here she is still running it with their son Jason as Director!  The event was originally called the “Spring Fling” and Jim hoped to make Big Bear Lake a premire trout fishing hole in Southern California.  Jim went on to work in real estate and was the Director for the MWD, and encouraged our water district to put fish in their budget!  Jim passed away in 2001 and, with the help of dedicated volunteers, Jason and Jacque keep this event alive!

So, grab your fishing poles and join us for the Jim Hall Memorial May Trout Classic, set for May 16 and 17.

Cash prizes are paid for the first nine places with a first-place award of $2,025.
Trophy-sized trout are being planted prior to the tournament. Date and location of the fish plant is kept secret. To be on the list for next year, call Jacque Hall at 909-585-4007. this event ALWAYS fills fast!
