Boating
With 21 mile of shoreline, Big Bear Lake is ideal for boating. The MWD limits the size of boats to under 26 feet. The lake is loaded with trout and bass. Water temperatures vary throughout the year, with the fish biting the best when the water is the coldest.
You can launch your boat from either of two public boat launches on the north shore. The east boat ramp is a quarter mile west of Stanfield Cutoff and is called the Carol Morrison Public Launch ( 41911 North Shore Drive 909.866.5200) The west ramp (Duane Boyer Public Launch) is 1.5 miles west of Fawnskin (38925 North Shore Drive 909.866.2917). The hours off operation are 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM through September 1.
If you’re not bringing your boat, be sure to check out the local marinas. You can rent anything from kayaks to 12 person pontoon boats. We suggest you take lunch and tie your boat to a buoy by the dam at the west end. The alpine scenery will combine with ocean breezes and you may find yourself enjoying a relaxing sunset.
