Benefits of Laughter

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

A good way to relieve the stress of the Holiday season, is to simply laugh! I’m not kidding, although I do have some jokes to hopefully put a smile on your face, I’m telling the truth! Here are some very interesting facts about laughing and the good it has on our health:

  • Laughter boosts your immune system and decreases stress hormones

  • Laughing 100 times roughly equals 15 minutes on an exercise bike? Vigorous laughter increases the heart rate deepens the breathing rate, and uses muscles in the face, stomach, and diaphragm.

  • Aside from improving our moods, laughter can reduce stress, help fight infection, and reduce pain.

  • The levels of two stress hormones, cortisol and epinephrine which suppress the body’s immune system, will actually drop after a dose of laughter.

  • Higher levels of an antibody (salivary immunoglobulin A) that fights infectious organisms entering the respiratory tract were found in the saliva of people who watched humorous videos or experienced good moods.

  • Laughter releases anger, fear, guilt, anxiety and tension

  • Researchers found after watching an hour-long video of slapstick comedy that the “natural killer cells,” which seek out and destroy malignant cells, more actively attacked tumor cells in test tubes. And these effects lasted up to 12 hours.

  • Planning enjoyable activities for the future will reduce the stressor hormones such as cortisol and epinephrine.

  • Laughter reduces pain by releasing endorphins that are more potent than equivalent amounts of morphine

The most wasted day is that in which we have not laughed. Don’t wait until you are sick before you begin practicing laughter therapy. Start today by renting comedy classics from your video store, borrowing humorous books from the library, attending comedy clubs, watching comics on TV, and exchanging jokes with family members, friends, and coworkers. If you are visiting someone in the hospital, why not bring funny greeting cards and humorous books instead of flowers? Have a happy Holidays and just smile it will make you a little happier!

Don’t Wait, Come Visit Today!

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

There are so many reasons to come to Big Bear for your next vacation or even for that overnight get away. If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, we have the best outdoor activities and plenty of sunshine to do it in!

With over 300 days of sunshine all year, there’s not a season you will be disappointed in coming. With the most scenic views around, just the drive up to Big Bear is exciting! Climbing over 6500 feet above sea level Big Bear sits atop the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains at 6,743 feet in elevation.

Once up here you’ll have to take a short drive around the lake with its 22 miles of shoreline, 7 miles in length and an average ½ mile across. The average depth of the water is about 35 feet in the middle, and the max is 74 feet at the dam. With the heat from the city you might want to come up to cool off, our temperatures averagely fall around 80 degrees during the daytime in summer; cooling off at night with an average of 45.
Here we have an array of outdoor activates for the whole family, no matter the age, there is some fun to be had in the area. We have boat rentals: anything from a speed or pontoon boats all the way down to kayaks and canoes. If you don’t want to drive that boat yourself, you can always hop on one of the many rides or tours we have to offer. What’s that you say, you want to soar above the lake?! You can do that too! Take a parasailing ride and you can fly high above the lake, with the most breathtaking views possible. How about a zip-line tour where you can zipping through the forest towards the lake at an exciting 90 miles an hour!
You may be looking for a more relaxing adventure, if you are there are many other ways to explore our forest! You could start by taking a horseback ride, or forget the horse and just take a peaceful hike. You could take a ride on the scenic Summit Sky Chair to the top of the ski resort where, in the summer, you are able to hike around, down or atop the mountain. Either way you can find a trail that’s right for you.
Maybe you don’t want to hike in the forest, but drive instead. We have Off Road Adventures to take you on a guided tour around to some of the coolest spots. With lots of history, interesting facts and stunning views you’ll be amazed. You don’t have to take the guided tour; you might choose to do the “Self Guided Tour” through the Holcomb Valley. Just stop off at the Discovery Center for a brochure guide. With the locations mapped out for you and the total mileage between each spot there’s no way to get lost and you’re bound to have some sort of fun! While you’re there at the Discovery Center shop around for some kick knacks and mementos, and if you happened to get hungry you could stop by the little café they have inside too! They have a wealth of information about the plant and wildlife found indigenous to this area. You don’t want to forget any parking passes permits or maps while there, they have it all. From the hiking and biking trail maps, to camping information this is the spot to get it.
Now that I told you what there is to do up here the only thing you have to do is call. For the cheapest lodging deals and specials on the mountain you can visit US Gold Rush Resort Rentals. At 40016 Big Bear Blvd. Or check us out online at www.cabin411.com. Enjoy and we hope to see you soon!

Miss Merrily Kutner

Saturday, November 14th, 2009

What did you do for the Halloween Holiday? Well, Halloween in Big Bear was a lot more than Spooks, haunts and tricks. We went to the Village to meet Miss Merrily Kutner, and hear her read two of her scary manuscripts!

Merrily Kutner is an award winning author, who shares her love of rhyming and monsters with all of us who attended. We enjoyed ‘em so much we had to buy one!

Of course we choose the“Kids Choice Award” winning one “Z is for Zombie” We sat and chatted with her for a while and she told us how, when her son was little he loved monsters and rhymes, but when she went to the library to check out a rhyming monster book, she found none. SO, like any good mother would do…she wrote one herself! And we are sure lucky she did!

She was all dressed up for us and even had eyeball flambé! EWWWW! What a great time we had, and we can’t wait for next fall, when her newest book comes out “Alphebet Magic”!

Long Time Cabin Owners

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

My friends were up last weekend, long time Forestry cabin owners (only available in the summer months), and they had a blast!  They have enjoyed this cabin for over 60 years but here is the catch.  They did things this summer that has NEVER been available before!

First they went to Flying Bear Zip Lines with the kids and had an excellent adventure.  Also, the location couldn’t be more perfect!  Right in the National Forest…

Then they went Kyaking.  There are quite a few choices for kyaking tours and rentals now!  Who would have thunk it?

These are seasoned Big Bear folks and they found new stuff to do.  Just think what things you will find on your first or second trip up here!

Give us a call at Gold Rush Resort Rentals and we will rent you that special place for 2-42 people!  I’ll bet it will be the best vacation ever!

Halloween in the Village or at the Zoo!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009

little-girl-with-pumpkin

Halloween, also known as “All Hallows Eve“, will occur this year on a Saturday!  You know what that means…there are going to be a TON of children trick or treating in the Village and at our Zoo!

The local merchants get together and give away candy in a central location…it keeps kids off the local streets.  Also, being a tourist community half of the houses are empty, thus not allowing a bag full of treats!  The Zoo hosts BOO! in the Zoo at the Moonridge Animal Park.  Check out their website for more info!

Whatever you choose to do, remember we have a rental just for YOU!  Give us a call at 1 (866)-37- CABIN and we will find a non-haunted house for you!

Baseball Fever!

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

Just checking the stats today, and isn’t it nice to see BOTH Los Angeles teams in first place in their division?

I had the pleasure of attending the World Series at Angel Stadium a few years back.  There is NOTHING like the World Series if you are a BASEBALL FAN! That I am!

Well, even non baseball fans can appreciate the winding down of the season, the fall crispness blowing in the air, and the crack of the bat!  Cracker Jack’s never tasted so good!

Well put on your ball caps and join us here in Big Bear for some fun and excitement!  We have cabins with Big Screen TVs, you could host your own baseball party right here in Big Bear.

Give us a call at 1 (866) 37-CABIN or check us out at www.bigbearrentals.net .

Zip Line 100ft over the Forest!

Saturday, September 12th, 2009

fyingbear-zipline

So as of a few months ago, we have a new, fun and exciting way to explore the Big Bear Valley.

Currently the one and only operating Zip Line Tour in all of Southern California! You can zoom on 3 different zip lines for about 2 hours or you can get the BIG package and do all 5 zips which take about 3 hours.

You soar 100 feet above the forest floor, with awesome views of the lake and the surrounding area. They have aerial platforms for easy take off and landing and it’s available year round! Located about 5 minutes from the Village just off Mill Creek Rd.

It’s only 2 hours from you guys down there in the LA basin. You must be at least 75 pounds and not exceed 250 pounds. But don’t worry; they do have tandem tours available  so you can take the little one too!

The prices are the best part…well probably until you get up there…with the Black Bear Tour with 3 zips is only $65 and if your down to do the Grizzly Bear Tour that will only cost you $85 for all 5 zips!

I can’t wait to explore this newest way to check out the scenery! Hope you have a high flyin time!

~Sara
