Contestants of Clementine pageant in Parade

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Living here in Big Bear my whole life, I have participated in the Miss Clementine fashion pageant since I can remember!

I Started out entering as a Tiny Miss contestant then to Junior Miss and finally being able to compete for the “Miss Clementine” title and now being in the family category.

What a great opportunity to feel like an old miner! It has always reminded me of Little House on the Prairie. It is also a wonderful occasion to be part of this celebrated community!

So, just a few weekends ago I entered the Miss Clementine pageant with my family (my two children, my older sister and her daughter) in the best family category. We won wearing our old fashion bathing suites on our way to the ”ole fishing hole”!

This weekend you can catch us in the Old Miner’s Day parade a top the Clementine float! Starting promptly at 12:30 on the corner of Summit and Big Bear Blvd, and continuing west towards the Village!  I’m sure there will be no way to miss us, as we will be the bathing beauties singing “Zip a De Doo Dah”! Make sure to wave, shout and show us your appreciation! Hope to see you all there…cant wait!

Flower Power!

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Did you know that last weekend was the 68th Annual Flower Show?  Well, it certainly was.  I actually won a ribbon in this competition about 20 years ago.  However, it was at the library, that was in the little building in front of the old fire station that was at the corner of Big Bear Blvd. and Knickerbocker!  This was pre-signal!  Who remembers that?

Anyway,  back to the real story!  This years event took place at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center.  As always, it was sponsored by the Women’s Club of Big Bear Lake.  The theme for this year was  “Bears, Bees, and Buds” .

All of the entries must be from personal gardens, neighboring gardens or from the forest. I hope you were able to attend and see what Beautiful Big Bear has to offer.

Xeriscape Tour Today

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

I had the opportunity to go on the Xeriscape tour yesterday and what a great time I had.  We started the tour in the Erwin Lake area at a home that had lots of antique “toys” and bottles and great sutff scattered amoung the plants and trees.  This house even had a cactus garden!

There were very “natural” places that all the mountain critters would love, and there were houses with putting greens (made of turf) and out door kitchens!  I think we saw it all! We even went to a Fire Safe house with natural vegitation of Manzanita and regular old sandy soil!

If you missed it, you missed a fun day!  Heck! I got a fire chief  hat and recycleable flower pots, gloves, pencils, and a piggybank!  Everyone was so nice!

Don’t miss this annual event put on by the Sierra Club…I can rent you a room for next year!  I can rent you a room for this weekend!  Give us a call!  1 (866) 37-CABIN   bigbearrentals.net
