Big Bear Is Home To The Largest Snowmaking Systems In The World!

Saturday, March 7th, 2009

The most dependable snow conditions in Southern California can be found in Big Bear. Where natural snowfall is often in short supply, it takes one of the largest snowmaking systems in the world and thousands of hours in operation to cover 198 acres with this intricate  system.

Over the course of a season, Bear Mountain will construct more than 150 snow features that include jumps of all shapes and sizes. In fact, most of the runs at both resorts are very meticulously groomed each and every night.

Both resorts maintain all features nightly to provide you with the most consistent surfaces and shapes possible. So make sure you come and experience the most innovative and best maintained freestyle features in the parks at Bear Mountain and Snow Summit.

We’ve loaded a video to YouTube! It shows what Big Bear looks like when we receive two feet of snow. A snowboarder, went off between the Resorts and shot this. Although shakey, it shows Big Bear Lake and the Solar Observatory, with beautiful images of snow covered trees. We hope you enjoy it, we sure had fun putting it together. Snow Summit and Bear Moutain, The Best Ski Resorts in Southern California

Friday, January 30th, 2009

Wow, Christmas 2008 was one of the whitest Christmases Big Bear has experienced in a very long time! Big Bear Lake, Ca. had the largest snow fall in 35 years! We got so much snow that Cal. Trans had difficulty in keeping up, the City actually closed roads all over, the only vehicles allowed on the streets were police and emergency vehicles. Snow conditions at Snow Summit and Bear Mtn. are exceptional, 100% open with terrain covering a staggering 438 acres.

Big Bear Lake in Southern California is the proud home of two premier ski resorts. Each resort has its own favorite with skiers and snowboarders. Everyday skiers looking for a kick back friendly winter play ground make their choice Snow Summit, while other enthusiasts prefer Bear Mountain because of its freestyle terrain. Bear Mountain is noted to be the only mountain resort in the United States mainly dedicated to offering freestyle terrain. Both resorts are popular with all levels of experience. Their state of the art snowmaking technology sets both resorts apart from other ski resorts in Southern California.
