The Burros are back in Big Bear!

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

burroThis is a good thing and a bad thing.  In 1997 the BLM and Forest Service took a Burro Census and decided it was time to remove the Burros from the immediate area.  That done,  Burros stopped eating our wood around the house, knocking over our trash, and braying all day and night! I miss them…

So, as of right now, you can come up and see the burros kicking around the neighborhoods!  But get here quickly, as some government agency will remove them…I promise.  It seems you can’t control people so the burros suffer.

If you need to rent a place so you can see the burros, give us a call.

The event, “The Seven Summits Of Big Bear” is back!  This is a challenge of hiking series to climb seven of the highest peaks surrounding the Big Bear Valley.

Two of the group hikes have already taken place, however, individuals may still hike Bertha Peak and Gray’s Peak on their own to be credited for the challenge.

The remaining Seven Summit hikes are Gold Mountain, June 27, 9 a.m.; Sugarlump/Bear Peak, July 19, 1 p.m.; Delamar Mountain, Aug. 1, 9 a.m.; Sugarloaf Mountain, Aug. 22, 8 a.m. and San Gorgonio, Sept. 19, at a time not yet determined.

Visit the website www.sevensummit-sofbigbear.org to get directions to the trail heads and hike descriptions. Hikers can download punch cards to track each peak conquered.

There are a set of small metal stamps hikers will use to mark punch cards with unique patterns to verify each hike. Punches will be available at the top of each peak at least for one month prior to the group hike date.

5th Annual Trout Fest Oct 3rd & 4th

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

The 5th annual trout fest is proven to be a popular outing for everybody in your family.  Come on up to the crisp air in Big Bear lake and enjoy a weekend among your fellow anglers as you fish for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.

Prizes will be awarded to the top five finishers as every year a big fish trophy will also be awarded to the largest trout caught over the two day event. Trust me,  even if you think this is out of your league there is a blind boggy contest, this year their breaking up 5,000 dollars,  so,  even a bad day could pay off big [Ii myself have proven this true, last year I won $300.00 for a 1.2 pound trout over a two day event, ,sure it's a little embarassing to be called up but cash is cash]. The exciting part is they stock 30 special trout with tags on them that are worth big prizes, all the way up to a 2009 Ford F150.

Saturday, the 3rd, the local B’s bbq is hosting a free lunch to all anglers as all kinds of sponsors will have booths set up and giving away free stuff like rapala, panther martin, mercury, plano, shakspeare and lowe boats.

There’s even a special drawing and prizes for kids catches, and goodie bags given away to the first 600 sign ups, the cost for this two day event is only $75.00 for adults and $50.00 for kids under 16 years old, and that includes all fun stuff like the blind boggy and it enters every one for a chance to win a fishing boat and trailer .

Don’t forget, this event is October 3rd and 4th so make some reservations now with Gold Rush Resort Rentals and tell them you’re in the trout fest and looking for a great price on a private cabin to relax in between those working days on the lake 1-800-363-8303
