The 5th annual trout fest is proven to be a popular outing for everybody in your family.  Come on up to the crisp air in Big Bear lake and enjoy a weekend among your fellow anglers as you fish for thousands of dollars in cash and prizes.

Trust me,  even if you think this is out of your league there is a blind boggy contest, this year their breaking up 5,000 dollars,  so,  even a bad day could pay off big [Ii myself have proven this true, last year I won $300.00 for a 1.2 pound trout over a two day event, ,sure it's a little embarassing to be called up but cash is cash]. The exciting part is they stock 30 special trout with tags on them that are worth big prizes, all the way up to a 2009 Ford F150.

Saturday, the 3rd, the local B’s bbq is hosting a free lunch to all anglers as all kinds of sponsors will have booths set up and giving away free stuff like rapala, panther martin, mercury, plano, shakspeare and lowe boats.

There’s even a special drawing and prizes for kids catches, and goodie bags given away to the first 600 sign ups, the cost for this two day event is only $75.00 for adults and $50.00 for kids under 16 years old, and that includes all fun stuff like the blind boggy and it enters every one for a chance to win a fishing boat and trailer .

Don’t forget, this event is October 3rd and 4th so make some reservations now with Gold Rush Resort Rentals and tell them you’re in the trout fest and looking for a great price on a private cabin to relax in between those working days on the lake 1-800-363-8303

We were away for a week on vacation.  We flew kites, went to a farmers market, enjoyed a concert in the park, shopped and geocached.  We had some great eats and stayed inside and read, read, read.  I went fishing and we took some long walks at sunset and sunrise.

It dawned on me on the way home I COULD HAVE DONE ALL OF THAT RIGHT HERE AT HOME!

If any of that sounds good to you, give me a call and I can set you up with a cabin and some great vacation ideas!

Big Bear may be a small town, BUT, the fish being caught from the lake are in no way a small prize!

The summer season is upon us, and with the heavy weigh ins recently, it looks as if the place to be for avid anglers or even the enthusiast is somewhere – anywhere on Big Bear Lake.  The fishing has been tremendous to say the least.
Although the catches have been made in a variety of ways and locations on the lake. Some are trolling while others prefer to fish from their own dock or cast a line from the shore side.
Reports vary in regards to areas. Boulder Bay has been the recent treasure trove, but, with summer just beginning we will have lots of time to watch and see if any specific locations prove to be better than others.
It’s a fishermans paradise and an anglers dream – come on up and be a part of the summer that brings record catches, maybe you will be the next big winner!

Drop a Line In Big Bear

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Whether you are an experienced angler or a person who can appreciate humunogous fish, Big Bear Lake has had more than its share of record breaking fish weigh-ins in the past couple of weeks.

I don’t know if its something in the water, the weather, the warmth or cold temps. in the water but the monster size fish that have been hitting the scales in Big Bear Lake have been mind boggling!

Anyone at the Big Bear Marina weighing station has plenty of fish stories to tell, only, these won’t be lies!

Here’s the picture of the recent catfish caught weighing in at 27.82-pounds.

18.69 pound trout caught May 24, 2009

18.69 pound trout caught May 24, 2009

BIG BEAR LAKE IS AN ANGLERS PARADISE!

WOW, don’t let anyone out there say there’s no large fish in the Big Bear Lake.

If anyone had that on their minds before the last few weeks the anglers fishing in the lake sure proved them WRONG!

Three out of the four largest trout in Big Bear Lake was caught in only a nine day time span.  On May 16, during the Jim Hall Memorial May Trout Classic, a trout weighing in at 13.83-pounds was caught. Just two days after that a 14.58 pound trout was caught while fishing from a dock. During the Memorial holiday weekend, a new trout record was made by landing an 18.69-pound rainbow trout fishing near the Bear Valley Dam, May 24.

This is an incredible kick off to the summer we are expecting in Big Bear!  We think Big Bear Lake is the place for all anglers in 2009. With a kick off like that things can only get better!

Looks to us that it really doesn’t matter whether you are trolling on a boat or casting a line from a dock or the shoreline, anglers would be smart to try their luck by making a trip to the San Bernardino Mountains and Big Bear Lake.

If you want to make a weekend trip out of it give us a call, we have all types of cabins at affordable prices. Some on the lake, near the lake, only walking distance to some Marinas for convenience.

For information on a variety of Marina’s and public launch sites in Big Bear click this link and scroll down  Affordable Accommodations   you are also able to view all of our delightful cabins if you wish to stay a night or two.
