Fine Dining In Big Bear

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Are you looking for somewhere to eat in Big Bear?

Let me give you a couple of suggestions. If you’re looking for fine dining then you want Captains Anchorage, The Bistro, Mandolins, or Evergreens.

Looking for something a little cheaper try Alpine Coffee Shop, The Lumberjack Café or Thelma’s. Maybe you’re looking for Chinese. Then you want Pong’s Oriental Delights or Mandarin Gardens.

Looking for sushi, Fuji (yummo). Maybe you want Italian, Maggios. The best pizza, subs and pasta on the mountain. And if you want Mexican then you want to go La Montana’s, La Paz, or Sonora Cantinas.

Fast food we have a Mc Donald’s, Jack In The Box, Carl’s Jr. with a Green Burritos and a Sub Way, Quiznoes, and Taco Bell. We also have an I Hop, Denny’s and Little Caesars. I hope this has been some help to you.

Chickens

Saturday, July 11th, 2009

Yes, I said chickens!  Did you know that a lot of Big Bear folks raise chickens for eggs and, uh, meat!  The lady that used to run the Big Bear City post office has chicken in her yard.  They are doing quite well, thank you!

She doesn’t put out a light for them either, she lets them do their own thing and they have a little “home” to go to during the night hours.  The folks at the corner of Country Club and Greenway had chickens last year, haven’t seen them since winter time.  Bet they were tasty!

I bring this up because our growing season for edibles is so short, but we can live off the land here anyway.  We just make consessions! We are thinking of keeping chickens too.  There is nothing like a fresh egg in the morning!

Next weekend, the Xeriscape home tour will take place, and maybe you will even see chickens!  It has been done before! For additional information on the Sierra Club’s Xeriscape Garden Tour contact Christie Walker at 866-5006.

So book a place with us for the weekend of July 18, 2009 and join us for some fun!

Being predominantly Irish, myself, I love St. Patrick’s Day even more than the average person.

I have actually been to Ireland a number of times, and it is such a beautiful place with the most friendly people. Often during this time of year, I like to remember all the fun I’ve had and all the things I have learned about the Irish culture, from music, to food to architecture and religion.

If you ever have the opportunity to visit Ireland, I highly recommend you go, you will not regret it.

And, this St. Patrick’s day, remember to raise your Guinness to the Irish.
