18.69 pound trout caught May 24, 2009
BIG BEAR LAKE IS AN ANGLERS PARADISE!
WOW, don’t let anyone out there say there’s no large fish in the Big Bear Lake.
If anyone had that on their minds before the last few weeks the anglers fishing in the lake sure proved them WRONG!
Three out of the four largest trout in Big Bear Lake was caught in only a nine day time span. On May 16, during the Jim Hall Memorial May Trout Classic, a trout weighing in at 13.83-pounds was caught. Just two days after that a 14.58 pound trout was caught while fishing from a dock. During the Memorial holiday weekend, a new trout record was made by landing an 18.69-pound rainbow trout fishing near the Bear Valley Dam, May 24.
This is an incredible kick off to the summer we are expecting in Big Bear! We think Big Bear Lake is the place for all anglers in 2009. With a kick off like that things can only get better!
Looks to us that it really doesn’t matter whether you are trolling on a boat or casting a line from a dock or the shoreline, anglers would be smart to try their luck by making a trip to the San Bernardino Mountains and Big Bear Lake.
If you want to make a weekend trip out of it give us a call, we have all types of cabins at affordable prices. Some on the lake, near the lake, only walking distance to some Marinas for convenience.
For information on a variety of Marina’s and public launch sites in Big Bear click this link and scroll down Affordable Accommodations you are also able to view all of our delightful cabins if you wish to stay a night or two.

Squirrel getting a massage
Hey, don’t under estimate the life of a squirrel. Why, I was recently on vacation in Big Bear and everytime I happened to be somewhere I saw a squirrel having a great time!
You might think they do nothing but collect nuts all day long, climb trees, and just plain do nothing.
Well, I have news for you, that, my friends is a fallacy! I don’t know why I should be surprised, we loved the time we spent in Big Bear!
The cabin we rented from Affordable Accommodations had all the comforts of home and more! We found the staff friendly, the cabins exceptionally nice, and the prices even better!
The weather was the perfect mix between being warm during the day and chilly enough in the evenings to build a roaring fire in the fireplace. Just what a perfect

Water Skiing
mountain getway should be. The lake was absolutely wonderful, the village was full of shops brimming with great buys, and the restaurants we ate at served delicous food!
In my jaunts out and about, I was able to capture Mr. squirrel in a number of interesting activities. I have posted a few here.
In the end I actually saw a squirrel turning the tables and trying to take a picture of me!
I will never look at squirrels in the same way again, they have it made!

It’s that time of year again, the annual carp roundup in Big Bear will be held on June 6th and 7th.
Competitors try to get the largest amount of carp by weight out of our wonderful lake.
I have to say they are a good fighting fish but I personally don’t care for their taste, so if you’re in the mood for some great fish fighting then come on up and relieve the lake on the annual carp roundup.
See you there…..Shane
