Prospecting for Gold at the Swim Beach

 Two gold prospecting instructors Mark Pyles and Larry Judd will be holding a prospecting class.  This prospecting 101 class will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 PM until 6:30PM at Swim Beach.

The class will begin Tuesday, Aug. 4. and continue through Aug. 13. 2009.  Students will learn how to use a sluice box, dry washer, dredge and high-banker and they will learn the ins and outs of the trade!  They will even teach you how to “stake your own claim!”

Saturday, July 18, 2009 begins with the Doo Dah Parade in Fawnskin followed by the Junior Rodeo and Children’s event!

Saturday and Sunday is the 1800′s Country Fair & Loggers Jubilee!  Now doesn’t that sound fun!  It does to me!

This is the 60th Anniversary of the Old Miners’ Celebration and you need to be part of it!

Miss Clementine Pageant Today!

The Miss Clementine Pageant is one of Old Miners’ Days oldest and most cherished events with roots dating back to the 1950s. miss-clementine

It is a colorful celebration of the “Good Ol’ Days with petticoats, parasols, and lace as all ages of women and girls showoff their authentic period outfits and customs.

Participants are judged on their authenticity in dress, which often includes antique mementos, family heirlooms, and a wide variety of delicate history. Its lots of fun!

Old Miners’ Day Summer Events kicks off this Friday!

Old Miners’ Day kick off will be starting this coming weekend with the Chili Cook-Off.

Old Miners’ Events are an entire summer filled with a variety of events throughout the Big Bear Community. This is its 60th year.

Saturday, July 18th will be the first parade of the summer events strolling through downtown Fawnskin, entries are still welcomed to sign up. This parade is known as the annual Doo Dah Parade, this year is its 33rd. It has been said that this very Doo Dah Parade was once published in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the shortest parade.

The Parade begins at 10:00 AM and will be followed by the Old Miner’s Country Fair and Loggers Jubilee at Pederson’s Mill.

The parade offers such great entrants as “Stud Finders” by Habitat for Humanity, the Bear Valley Dandies, the Friends of Fawnskin, the Big Bear Renaissance Faire, among others.

Any and all amusing entries are welcomed for this fun event. The cost for participation is only $10 and free to non-profits. The Grand Marshall this year is 12 year old world-class mountaineer and resident of Fawnskin, Jordan Romero.
