Big Bear Lake Has it over Mammoth, Tahoe, and other resorts!

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

This unbiased review of Big Bear was found on Trip Advisor, we thought it was something that warranted sharing.

I had owned a vacation home in Mammoth for almost 20 years but had grown increasingly tired of running the Highway 395 gauntlet for weekend escapes.

I began to search for an alternative. We auditioned vacation homes from Tahoe and Lake Almanor to Clear Lake and Lake Nacimiento to Laughlin/Bullhead City and Lake Havasu.

We began to feel like Goldilocks, one was too cold, one was too hot, one had no winter activities, one had no summer, all were too far.

Almost on a lark I re-visited Big Bear Lake. While BBL does not rate #1 with us in any particular activity, except proximity, it was the only vacation destination that ranked high in EVERY category.

Think about it – the ONLY four season mountain resort within three hours driving distance of over 21 million residents! And now that BBL controls its own water resources, the days of the lake being reduced to a puddle because of the orange groves down below are long gone.

The local leadership has done a breathtaking job trying to retard upscale development to protect locals but gradually the area is being rediscovered as a true treasure! If you have not visited for a while, come on up and take a second look.

You’ll be VERY impressed.

Wine, Chocolate, and Whiskey Event This Weekend In Big Bear

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Here’s a tasty fundraiser for all those who love chocolate with some wine and whiskey!

The Cowboy Gathering is putting on a Wine, Whiskey, and Chocolate tasting on June 21, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Proceeds will go to the annual Big Bear Cowboy Gathering, Wild West Storyfest, and the Robert Harris Memorial Scholarship fund.

Jack Wirtz of Southern Wine and Spirits will be providing a variety of wines and whiskey.  There will also be finger foods to compliment each wine and whiskey, courtesy of five of Big Bear’s restaurants.

The special addition of Chocolate treats was designed to tempt the taste buds.

There are also gift baskets offered in a Chinese auction. The tasting will be held at a private home, Dry Creek Ranch, located at 1925 Shady Lane, Meadowbrook Estates, Sugarloaf. Tickets are only $25 per person.

June 21, Father’s Day, is when this event will be held. Add this to your Father’s Day itinerary.

There’s Gold in them their hills!

Friday, June 12th, 2009

I would personally like to thank our home owners for attending our Gold Rush event May 30th.  Many of you enjoyed panning for gold with the High Desert Gold Diggers.

They seemed to inspire us to want to join a prospecting group.  I promised to get some info for you so you can join a group in your area.  Well, here it is!

The site: www.icmj.com/clubs-associations-govt-agencies.php will get you to a great list of clubs.  Just click on your state.  (I am sorry but there was no short cut for that address)!

www.goldprospectors.org is a GPAA (the guys from TV) site that gives you local chapters.  YOU DO NOT HAVE TO “DO” THE BUZZARD SPECIAL.  The magazine is good, but lots of ads.

I Googled:  prospecting clubs California and got quite a few hits.

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, NEVER, buy equipment until you have been to a few meetings/outings.  Most things can be had USED, at a greatly discounted price.  Most clubs have outings and invite guests…you use their equipment to see what you really want.  I know lots of people with stuff they “needed” but don’t use!

Any questions, please call me, I would love to help you find your way into mining!

There is gold here in Big Bear!

The Perils Of Mountain Living

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

So, it was kind of sad here in the office today, I had to sit here and watch this poor little squirrel die out front of our window.

I think that the cute little guy got hit by a car when he was trying to cross the road. He kept spinning around in circles reaching for his hind leg, it looked like it was crushed.

I was told that I should go out there and put him out of his misery by bashing him with a shovel but I just did not have the heart in me to do that. It is one thing to go out hunting for deer or elk to eat for the winter but I just couldn’t kill that cute little animal even though I know that it was in pain.

They just look so cute and cuddly like a pet even though I do know that they are probably full of rabies. It was sad to watch him slowly die out there all alone but it was easier that killing him myself.

So, this is my dedication to all of the poor little critters that sadly become roadkill. :(
