One of the best things about Big Bear has to be the fact that it’s a drive to destination.
Many people may not realize it, but Big Bear is actually a four season resort. The winter is obviously best known for its skiing and snow boarding and many guests come here in the summer to play on the lake and get away to cooler temperatures of the mountain.
But Spring and Fall are still Big Bear’s best kept secret. Many hikers, fisherman and mountain bikers have found out that the Spring and Fall is prime time for a visit!
Although currently the rates at the Gold Rush Resort Rentals are by far cheaper than usual, after the labor day holiday, you are treated to much greater reduced rates. The temperatures are still excellent and the lake is open and less crowded. So check out Big Bear in the fall or spring if you want to experience the full beauty without the crowds.

So spring is upon us once again in our valley, with the birds chirping and the squirrels gathering nuts and chasing each other. It’s a perfect time to visit and see the splendid sunset off the lake or just relax and catch some fish.
Go on a nature walk or be a people watcher. Browse thru the village and get an ice cream from the northpole fudge company or catch the latest movie at one of our theaters. There’s always something hoppin’ in Big Bear.
Have dinner at one of our wonderful restaurants like Captains Anchorage (they have the best clam chowder) or Maggios for some great Itailan food. So give us a call @ 1 (800) 363-8303 or go to our website @ cabin411.com to make your reservation today……

What a typical Big Bear Week. After work on Monday I went fishing at the local park. It was 4:00 PM and I had on a sweatshirt and jeans. I did not catch anything, but it was beautiful looking across the lake with gorgeous weather!. You know what they say, “A bad day fishing is better than a good day working.”
Actually, I had a good day working and a good day fishing! I had decided that spring had sprung and life was good! Well, life is good but it turned cold on Wednesday and I thought I might need to take out the snowblower again. Thank goodness it was just COLD!
I had the late shift today, but before work I had to water my new meadow seeds because it was warm and beautiful again. Everyone should live here!

“Hoppy” Easter!
Happy Easter to all!
After a couple days of gloominess, the sun has come out for this beautiful Sunday holiday.
It is a gorgeous Spring day, AND the ski resorts are still open. The town is fairly busy this morning, going to church, having Easter egg hunts and possibly attending one of the awesome brunchs we have around town.
I wish you all a great day with your family and friends.

After all of the weird weather we had here on Wednesday I have to say that I was rather surprised that we had such a nice sunny day on Thursday on the mountain. Just a little bit of a breeze and a few pretty white clouds floating around the sky.
The trees are starting to show more green which makes me think that spring is trying very hard to be here to stay and that the little bit of snow that showed up was just a last ditch effort by winter to give us one last slap.
But lets hope that we don’t see that again for several more months.

It was another beautiful sunny blue skies day outside today, and we are looking forward to more of the same for the next couple of weeks.
Spring is truly here and it is here to stay. The temperatures are getting warmer and warmer everyday, pretty soon it will be the perfect weather for everyone to be able to go for a nice cooling swim in the lake.
It will be a great summer for swimming in the lake and if you don’t like to swim then the fishing should be pretty great and you can always donate the fish that you catch to the Moonridge Animal Park to help feed the bears. They would be very happy for the extra food and it would be fun for the whole family.

Today was the picture perfect second day of spring with not a cloud in the sky and the warm rays of sunshine bathing the skin. There was no better day for the beginning of spring with the first sprigs of grass popping out of the ground.
The spring gardens are now at the best time for fresh planting to add a colorful amount of happy cheer to the front yards all over Big Bear.
Pretty soon the Marina’s all around the lake will be opening and it will be the best weather for swimming in the lake.
So, it would be a good time to start booking your stay with us here at Gold Rush Resort Rentals just give us a call at 1-800-363-8303 or go to our website at www.cabin411.com.

The first day of Spring arrives of Friday March 20th this year.
Spring usually comes between March 19th and the 23rd each year. The reason that Spring arrives on a different date each year is because the first day is always on the (spring) Vernal Equinox.
This occurs when the sun is directly above the equator, and it does not do so on the exact same day every year because the calendar is not exactly 365 days every year.
This year that day arrives tomorrow Friday March 20th when the sun will be above the equator.

It is yet another beautiful day up here in Big Bear spring is definitely in the air. We have had wonderful warm sunny days the past couple of weeks. The ski slopes are still open and running it would be the perfect time to come up and hit the slopes before all the snow melts away. Don’t forget that Friday is the first day of Spring, and the flowers will be popping up any day now to cover the mountain in soft colors.
