Squirrel getting a massage

Hey, don’t under estimate the life of a squirrel. Why, I was recently on vacation in Big Bear and everytime I happened to be somewhere I saw a squirrel having a great time!

squirrel1-2You might think they do nothing but collect nuts all day long, climb trees, and just plain do nothing.

Well, I have news for you, that, my friends is a fallacy!   I don’t know why I should be surprised, we loved the time we spent in Big Bear! squirrels20fishing1

The cabin we rented from Affordable Accommodations had all the comforts of home and more!  We found the staff friendly, the cabins exceptionally nice, and the prices even better!

The weather was the perfect mix between being warm during the day and chilly enough in the evenings to build a roaring fire in the fireplace.                                                                                                                                  Just what a perfect

mountain getway should be.  The lake was absolutely wonderful, the village was full of shops brimming with great buys, and the restaurants we ate at served delicous food!

In my jaunts out and about, I was able to capture Mr. squirrel in a number of interesting activities. I have posted a few here.

In the end I actually saw a squirrel turning the tables and trying to take a picture of me! Say Nuts!

I will never look at squirrels in the same way again, they have it made!

The Perils Of Mountain Living

So, it was kind of sad here in the office today, I had to sit here and watch this poor little squirrel die out front of our window.

I think that the cute little guy got hit by a car when he was trying to cross the road. He kept spinning around in circles reaching for his hind leg, it looked like it was crushed.

I was told that I should go out there and put him out of his misery by bashing him with a shovel but I just did not have the heart in me to do that. It is one thing to go out hunting for deer or elk to eat for the winter but I just couldn’t kill that cute little animal even though I know that it was in pain.

They just look so cute and cuddly like a pet even though I do know that they are probably full of rabies. It was sad to watch him slowly die out there all alone but it was easier that killing him myself.

So, this is my dedication to all of the poor little critters that sadly become roadkill. :(
